There is a fee of 150$ to help cover the coaching and pool expenses.
There is a 500$ fee for non Dawson athletes. Practices begin and end at Dawson except Sunday rolling sessions unless you make specific arrangements with Nate Lord.

Until you have performed fifty rolls in two consecutive sessions, you are required to attend rolling sessions. Attending rolling sessions is required for sports credit.

Practice Schedule: Sunday five Rolling Sessions.
Monday and Wednesday "late" practices in Golden, St. Vrain and other locations as appropriate. 3:30 - 7:30 pm.
Fridays Time Trials. 3:30 - 5:30 pm.
Dawson provides transportation to practices and races. Because rolling practices are on Sundays, families must provide their own transportation to those five sessions.

February - Begin Rolling sessions, outfit boats, learn loading procedures, begin flatwater basics and conditioning. Practice over before dark.

March - Basic skills and conditioning on the pond. Stroke drills, Sprints, Intervals, Distance. Practice over before dark.

April - Begin going to Golden. Easy moving water and easy whitewater. Slalom and rodeo boating. Wildwater at Boulder Resevoir.

May - Begin going to St. Vrain. Slalom and rodeo boating. Wildwater at Boulder Resevoir or St. Vrain.

Attending practice is required for sports credit. Attending pool sessions is required for sports credit. You may miss practice to do homework only with the prior permission of Mr. Lord. Attending races is required for sports credit unless a given race is beyond an individual's skill level. Helping out with gear logistics is required for sports credit. Being responsible for wearing the right gear and not loosing school gear is required for sports credit.

Varsity requirements: combat roll, comfortable in slalom and downriver boats on class II-III whitewater, solid performance in competition, leadership on and off the water (I.E. organizing loading boats, setting a good example and attitude, helping less skilled paddlers gain skill, safety consciousness) Being a slacker or lack of team consciousness and compassion puts one's varsity status in jeopardy.

Race Schedule:
March 1, 2 Slalom and Wildwater Training camp in Durango with Cathy Hearn. Must be comfortable with cold weather paddling and have a reliable roll.
April 11, 12, 13 Crystal River Race This will be at the Colorado Rocky Mountain School in Carbondale. Leave Thursday after lunch; return Sunday. DR Friday pm @ Grizzly Creek Colorado River, Freestyle, DR Saturday @Shoshone Colorado River, Sunday Slalom @confluence of Crystal and Roaring Fork.
April 26- 27 Durango This one is for experienced paddlers only. It will include a training camp with John Brennan and Cathy Hearn. Leave Thursday after lunch; return Sunday.
April ? Golden This is a one day event put on by the Colorado School of Mines Kayak Club.
May 10, 11 Boulder Creek Race We will be hosting this event on the St. Vrain whitewater course. Slalom Saturday, Rodeo and Downriver Sunday. This is a Junior Olympic Qualifier.
May 17 Durango Jr. National Slalom Team Trials.
